The film essay “AGON: Constructions of Democracy”, developed within the framework of the MeDeMAP project Work Package 2 – Theoretical embedding, has been published in Issue 16 – 2025 (2) of Tecmerin: Journal of Audiovisual Essays. The publication is now available in open access and is formally recognised as a peer-reviewed academic output.
AGON is a 26-minute film essay – co-directed by Nico Carpentier and Ali Minanto – reflecting on the meaning of democracy and how it is contested. Set in Prague, the film brings together the aesthetics of the Czech capital with an intercultural dialogue involving members of the Indonesian community and other communities residing in the city. Through the articulation of political and cultural theory with fiction and dance, the film explores democracy as a spatially grounded practice, a site of political struggle, and a condition that requires continuous protection.
