Last October the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) Policy Lab organized a webinar under the topic “Citizens’ Parliament: Lessons in Public Participation”, featuring Professor Nico Carpentier and Associate Professor Vaia Doudaki from Charles University in Prague. The full recording of the webinar is now available.

The session drew directly on insights from the Czech Citizen Parliament on Media and Democracy, a deliberative initiative conducted as part of the MeDeMAP project – Mapping Media for Future Democracies.

During the session, Nico Carpentier and Vaia Doudaki reflect on how the Czech Citizen Parliament enabled members of the public to deliberate on the role of media in contemporary democracies, foster trust across diverse viewpoints, and explore collaborative responses to societal challenges. Their contribution highlighted how participatory formats can cultivate both bonding and bridging social capital, reinforcing the capacity of communities to act collectively.
