The MeDeMAP project will hold two dissemination events in Brussels on 13th January 2026. As the project enters its final stages, these events will bring MeDeMAP’s research findings directly to those shaping Europe’s media landscape and democratic future across various fields of activity\u2014from decision-makers to journalists, civil society representatives and academics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The morning event is titled ‘Regulating Media for Future Democracies: Political and People’s Voices’. Members of the European Parliament, national parliamentarians, European Commission officials, and policy actors will discuss the intersection of media regulation and democratic governance. Building on MeDeMAP’s extensive research into European political information environments, two roundtables will explore critical questions about the future of media policy in the EU, including next steps following the EU Media Freedom Act (EMFA) and citizen perspectives drawn from the citizens’ parliaments organised by MeDeMAP in Austria, the Czech Republic, Ireland, and Slovenia. The morning programme will also feature a screening of ‘AGON: Constructions of Democracy’, a thought-provoking film essay that reflects on the meaning of democracy and its contestation across cultures. The event will take place in the European Quarter (final location to be confirmed) between 9.30 am and 11:30 am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the afternoon, the research centres DESIRE and ECHO of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), in collaboration with the research centre ENGAGE (Campus Saint-Louis \u2013 Bruxelles of UCLouvain), will welcome journalists, NGOs, scholars, and researchers interested in MeDeMAP’s methodology and findings at the VUB. The afternoon event will include a debate on journalism and democracy, featuring perspectives from journalists, civil society organisations, and academics, as well as an interactive workshop on the MeDeMAP map\u2014an innovative spatial interface that provides access to quantitative data on European political information environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These events are designed for distinct but complementary audiences\u2014from political actors, policymakers, and European Commission officials to journalists, NGOs, scholars, researchers, and data journalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
